Jet Tubular

Synopsis

The Jet Tubular is a form of transportation in a the dimension visited by Max in Episode 0003: Hop on the Jet. This dimension is characterized by the absence of cars, a reality that initially surprises Max. Wilson, Max’s counterpart in this dimension, explains that instead of cars, they have “jet tubulars”, which he describes as “super fast train[s] that run in a tube” at speeds of “about 800 miles an hour.”

Details

  • Jet Tubulars are the primary mode of transportation in this dimension, used for both long and short distances.
  • Travel times are significantly reduced compared to Max’s reality. For example, a trip from Seattle to Portland takes 15 minutes, and a transcontinental journey to New York City takes only 4 hours.
  • The Jet Tubular network is extensive, with tubes running underground and even underwater to connect different cities and continents.
  • Wilson describes them as being an evolution of “bullet train” technology, but faster and more efficient due to the sealed, air-filled tubes.
  • The company responsible for building and maintaining the Jet Tubular network is Studebaker, a company that went defunct in Max’s reality.
  • The concept of the Jet Tubular is very similar to the Hyperloop, a real-world transportation system being developed by Elon Musk. Wilson finds the name “Hyperloop” to be silly.
